THE SITCH

I remember my 11th year of high school. I was in the International Baccalaureate and in way over my head. My grades in the sciences and arithmetic were mostly mediocre and yet I was still hoping to eventually major in Computer Science in the future.

The one course that I truly excelled in was English Literature. I loved writing, I loved the uplifting feeling of having something that you believe is worth saying. Even in my other classes, presentations and writing assignments were my saving graces. My Literature teacher was a sarcastic mix of Gordon Ramsey and Terence Fletcher from Whiplash (he definitely had the latter's hair... or rather, lack thereof). I already loved the subject but he had such a love for good writing that it only inspired me more.

My Freshman year of university was spent trying to convince myself that Computer Science was the way to go but I lost all enthusiasm for programming midway through the semester. I never did forget about my high school Literature teacher and all of the stationary he threw at me. While none of the pencils and rulers became lodged in my skull, his passion certainly did.

I'm now undergoing a Bachelor in English Literature, far happier than I was trying to convince myself to be a programmer (STEM is apparently the way to go after all). I started this website in my Freshman year as a way to keep track of the personal "essays" I wrote starting from the summer after my high school graduation. I'm not too certain of what is it that I hope to achieve with this, but I know for certain that by the time I graduate with my degree, this will serve as a testament to my evergrowing passion as a writer.
